Passion Open Season With Win

Written by tecmo on .

Kinda forgot to mention yesterday that the Pittsburgh Passion, the city's premier women's football team, won their season opener over the weekend. 29-6 against the Detroit Demolition.

Moving to NYC makes it harder and harder to keep up with the 2007 NWFA champs and current IWFL juggernauts, so I can only really rely on press releases and such until I come up with a better plan. From their website:

"Touchdowns scored by Lisa Horton, Wilma Walton, Lori Johnson, and Amanda Haeg. The defense was led by JoJo Warner. Sharon Vasquez and Michelle Brevard both picked up interceptions.

The game will air on FSN this Wednesday at 7:30pm, and also on multiple Armstrong channels and Comcast OnDemand. Full TV schedule available at www.pittsburghpassion.com. From Pennsylvania to California, and from Maine to Puerto Rico, televised Passion Football now reaches more than 17 million homes coast to coast in the United States."

My buddy Steve also said that the team looked good. I'll take him at his word.

The team's loss in the playoffs last year was their first since the end of the 2006 season, so we're on our way to another sick win streak.

Next week brings the Baltimore Nighthawks to Pittsburgh.

Bill Cowher Is Weird

Written by tecmo on .

Props to my buds at The Pensblog for sending this over.

Bill Cowher made an appearance at yesterday's Hurricanes playoff game to sound the opening horn. Why do they even have a crank horn? Oh wait, it's a hurricane alarm horn...I just answered my own question, so don't bother emailing me.

As The Pensblog guys state, "Canes should have known better. Bill Cowher at a home playoff game. Not a win." Burn.

I'm more concerned about Cowher's teeth. Ever since he got those chiclets straightened and whitened, he looks more and more disturbing. Dude, we saw you for 15 years or so on the sidelines in Pittsburgh...if you change something like your teeth, you're going to scare just about any Steelers fan. But their whiteness is so compelling, which makes it impossible to look away. I guess what I'm saying is Bill Cowher's teeth are like a car crash, except that their condition improved afterward.

Rappers Love The Steelers

Written by tecmo on .

I've never hid my love for both Method Man and Redman. How High is still a ridiculous movie. Add in Bun-B from UGK, and I'm there.

I'm not down with new, just-released music, so apologies if this is older than I thought. Method and Red just dropped a new single with Bun-B called City Lights, and that was enough for me to give it a listen. Nothing blew me away about the song, but it's not bad altogether.

However, Bun-B proved that my respect for him is warranted...he mentions the Steelers in his verse. Real quick, he talks about his car's paint job, saying:

"I'm ridin' both black and yellow stripes like a Steeler"

Nice. If I had the money, I would totally buy that car.

The song is below. Lyrics are NSFW, as if I had to even tell you that.

Game 3, Brought To You By Marc Andre Fleury's Toes

Written by tecmo on .

Game 3 against the Flyers, with the Pens up 2-0 in the series, drops today at 3 PM. On NBJerks. MAF would like to remind you how close we were to this being a tied, 1-1 series heading back to Philly.

Don't get complacent, Pens fans and players. This series isn't over until the Flyers are completely dissected. The 2 game cushion is nice, but that's what was expected of the higher-seeded home team. And MAF's toes are the main reason we're in this position.

Foot on the gas the rest of the way, Pengrins fans.

China Toasts The Pittsburgh Penguins!

Written by tecmo on .

Man, these couldn't have come at a better time. My voice is completely shot after the incredible OT win in Game 2, and some Chinese people could probably sum up my emotions better.

Props to my buddy Gavin for sending these along. Apparently, they're blocking Youtube in China, so he traveled to Hong Kong to get them onto the Internet. Dedication at its finest.

We've seen China Jack and the unnamed Chinese students go to great lengths to profess their Steelers and Pitt Panthers fandoms, but it's hockey season now. And Gavin wouldn't be a true Pittsburgher without converting everyone into Penguins fans. It just had to happen.

Here's China Jack (and his famous bottle of Martell) toasting the Pens and hoping for success in this year's Stanley Cup playoffs. Jack sounds a little bent, but CHEERS PENGRINS nonetheless!

And here's Gavin's students, with a fantastic chant for the team. Since we got the Flyers currently, one girl states that "Flyers fans have the IQ of sweet potatoes." I couldn't come up with something half as clever if I tried.

Now, instead of giving you some mindless recap while I try to heal my dead voice, I give you the comedic stylings of some fantastic Chinese Pengrins fans. You wouldn't have it any other way, right?

Some Penguins Stuff UPDATED

Written by tecmo on .

Since we're getting ready for Game 2, here's a collection of Penguins stuff for your eyes and ears.

First off, Jim's trying to do a Yinz Luv Da Guins episode after each game. I applaud his efforts, and have posted the Game 1 recap here:

Next, how cute are Geno's parents? At least that's what this video says, and I'd have to agree.

Finally, Pensburgh via Deadspin lets us know that some Pens fan wants a date for Game 2 with a hot chick Pens fan. For $1. On Cragslist. There's still some time left before the puck drops, ladies...

UPDATE** NBC is shutting down the outside screen for Game 3, since they're broadcasting it nationally. What a joke of a move. Pensblog has email addys for some NBC bigwigs so you can let them know how you feel about that decision.

Mario Lemieux Loved French Snickers Bars Back In 1988

Written by tecmo on .

Here's an old Snickers commercial featuring Penguins great Mario Lemieux. And his hair.

The whole thing is in French, and it's old, so I can't really offer you any insightful analysis . "Wow, the quality is crappy." "Why isn't this in English?" "Snickers bars rule." There, that's pretty much all you should expect anyway.
